It is with a sense of loss and yet with very happy memories that the Alphonsian Academy Family received the sad news of the death of Father Miguel Ceschini, former General Secretary of the Academy.

Father Michael was born on the first of October 1952 in Ponta Grossa, Parana, Brazil.  He entered the Redemptorist minor seminary in 1966 and after his novitiate professed his vows as a Redemptorist in February of 1977.  After completing his studies in Curitiba, Brazil, he was ordained to the priesthood on June 26, 1982.

After a year of parochial ministry in the Redemptorist parish in Aquiduana, Brazil, he taught for five years in the Seminary of the Most Holy Redeemer in Ponta Grossa.  After his studies in Canon Law at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (The Angelicum) he remained in Rome and served for from 1991 until 1996 as Registrar of the Alphonsian Academy.  Encountering rather severe health problems, he returned to his native Brazil and for seven years was professor of Canon Law at the Theological Institute of Sao Paolo as well as serving in the capacity of assessor for the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Curitiba.

Following a prolonged bout with diabetes and all its consequences Father Ceschini succumbed to a cardiac infarct on March 11, 2004.

Father Michael is well remembered by all at the Academy as well as the local Redemptorist Community.  Always ready with a joke or a pun and constantly wearing a big smile he was truly a big man with a bigger heart.  Father Ceschini exemplified the spirit of self-giving that marks the spirit of the Alphonsian Academy.  We ask that you remember Father Miguel in your prayers.
